Donut

Andrew Glassford’s  ‘Donut’ Series is named playfully… all the pieces in this luscious collection feature one or more smooth, glossy donut-shaped stones.

The easily recognizable shape has adored men and women alike, in many cultures, past and present. In Incan tradition, this geometric shape, the ‘Torus’ was believed to resemble the circular path the sun travels; the hole in the middle representing the principle of complete Oneness. Referred to as the ‘Pi’ stone – the Incas wore as symbol of the circle of life and karma. In Roman and Greek traditions, coins were cored and strung, worn as ornaments or amulets. In Chinese culture, the Jade Circle Pendant or ‘Bi Disc,’ symbolizes eternity, harmony and balance, representing the endless cycle of life and the heavens – historically associated with abundance, power, nobility and protection. In modern times it continues to represent peace, good luck and the wearer’s connection to these ancient meanings.

Each hand-carved gem ‘donut’ in this collection is perfectly symmetrical – a continuous, flowing round silhouette. Inspired by the perfect wholeness and simplicity of the unbroken circle, designer Andrew Glassford adorns each ‘donut’ – artfully filling (or intentionally leaving empty) – the deep dimensional negative space in the middle. The Donut Collection jewelry is modern and glamorous; its signature gemstone’s shape is deeply rooted in tradition and history.
